The Government of Canada is planning to come up with new regulatory amendments for Icewine production.According to the proposed regulatory amendments, Icewine should be made only from grapes frozen naturally on the vine.
The proposed regulatory amendments also include changes in the consumer packaging and labeling regulations. The new standards will ask for mandatory labeling information on wine bottles and boxes, which should be visible from a single view without turning the container.
However, they will not require changes to the mandatory labelling information on the container such as common name, net quantity, country of origin and alcohol content by volume.
The proposed national standard also includes minor text changes to the Food and Drug Regulations.
These proposed regulatory amendments are expected to ease wine exporters task by making them not to redesign the labels for individual country's requirement and also prevent fraudulent Icewine sales.
