Fast-growing US burger chain Five Guys is to open in the town centre later this year.
The company opened its first British restaurant in Covent Garden last Thursday and is currently fitting out its second in The Oracle.
Five Guys has 1,000 branches in the States and counts President Barack Obama among its fans.
Sir Charles Dunstone, co-founder of Carphone Warehouse, is bringing the upmarket fast food company to this country, in partnership with the company’s founders, the Murrell family.
The menu consists of a selection of burgers with a limitless choice of free toppings, plus a variety of hot dogs and sandwiches, served with regular or Cajun fries.
The Oracle branch is due to open on the site of the old Pontis unit, adjacent to House of Fraser, in late August or early September.
Steve Belam, general manager at The Oracle, said: “We’re very proud to welcome Five Guys to The Oracle to complement our existing food offer.
“This will be only the second store for the brand in the UK, a real honour for the centre and for Reading.
“The arrival of Five Guys also means that the centre is 100 per cent let in terms of retail space, a fantastic achievement and one that further enhances our reputation as a leading destination in the region.
Burger fans will be well catered for in The Oracle after Ed’s Diner opened at the Broad Street entrance in April this year, and the Handmade Burger Company started trading on The Riverside last December.
