The Alaska halibut fishery has finished its second annual audit as the fishery works toward responsible fisheries management (RFM) certification.
The FAO-based RFM sustainable seafood certification has long been promoted by the Alaska seafood industry as an alternative to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification program.
The fishery first got certified in April of 2011. The RFM audits are done to monitor any changes since the previous assessment, according to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. This allows for continued RFM certification.
