Total red-meat supplies in freezers declined, while frozen poultry supplies increased, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Total frozen, red-meat supplies on June 30, 2013 retreated 8 percent from the previous month and declined 2 percent from 2012. Total pounds of beef in freezers recorded a slight decrease from the previous month but gained 3 percent from last year, NASS reported. Frozen pork supplies fell 14 percent from the previous month and eased 5 percent from 2012. Stocks of pork bellies dropped 22 percent from May and declined 13 percent from last year.
Total poultry supplies in freezers on June 30 gained 3 percent from the previous month and climbed 3 percent from 2012. Total stocks of chicken slipped 2 percent from the previous month but gained 3 percent from last year, NASS reported. Total pounds of turkey in freezers increased 9 percent from the previous month and climbed 4 percent from June 30, 2012.
