The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently published a Discussion Document regarding a new regulatory framework for federal food inspection. Canada is proposing to combine various federal food inspection regulations into a broader set of regulations. The framework includes regulatory requirements pertaining to the use of food additives in products imported, exported, or traded across provincial borders in Canada.
Canada notified the WTO of this proposal on July 8, 2013. The final date for comments is November 30, 2013.
Canada’s food additive regulations are included in the International Food Additive Database.
