Alejandro Bulgheroni, an Argentina-based oil baron, has purchased Podere Brizio wine estate in Montalcino, Italy from owners Robert Bellini and Patrizia Mazzi for an undisclosed amount.
Podere Brizio wine estate is the second acquisition by Alejandro in Montalcino after the purchase of 134ha of land, including 25ha vines, for around €15m ($19.9m).
The current acquisition includes 7ha of Brunello di Montalcino vineyard, 1ha of Rosso di Montalcino and 1.25ha of Sant'Antimo, reported wine-searcher.com citing Italian website WineNews.
Located at an altitude of 200-320 meters above sea level, the wine estate grows red grapes, including Sangiovese Grosso, called Brunello, Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Some of the wines produced at the estate include Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Rosso di Montalcino, Leonensis Sant'Antimo DOC, Podere Brizio, Pupà Pepu and Vin Santo.
Podere Brizio joins Bulgheroni's portfolio of wine estates, which includes Fattaria dei Barbi and Chianti Classico estate Dievole.
