Fast food restaurant chain Burger King has firmed up its plans to open 15 to 20 outlets annually in the Peninsular Malaysia over the next three years.

The proposed outlets will be opened through Cosmo Restaurants Sdn Bhd, the franchise holder of Burger King in Malaysia. Cosmo currently operates 38 outlets and another 11 are slated to open by this year-end.

Cosmo Restaurants Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Ahmad Fariz Hassan told Business Times that the company is targeting to have more than 80 outlets by 2016.

"Besides Kuala Lumpur, the east coast including Kota Baru and Kuantan are among our focus area," Hassan added.

"The investment is quite big as we are spending about RM1 million for an ordinary outlet and RM1.3 million for a drive-thru."

Burger King, which operates two outlets in Kelantan, will open another drive-thru at Pasir Pekan in Tumpat by 2013 end.

"Our overall target is to open 10 outlets in Kelantan in the next three years," Hassan added.

The Burger King system operates in over 13,000 locations serving more than 11 million guests daily in 89 countries and territories worldwide.
