The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute released a promotional report today detailing the value of the Alaska seafood industry to the United States economy.
The report, Economic Value of the Alaska Seafood Industry, comes from The McDowell Group, an Alaska-based research firm.
The report, which calls seafood “Alaska’s most valuable resource,” said the Alaska seafood industry accounts for half of all fishery production in the United States, with a combined export and retail value of USD 6.4 billion.
The report also said the industry provides a total of 165,800 American jobs, including 34,000 Washington residents. The report estimates one in seven Alaskans works in the industry.
