Thailand-based Oishi Group has inked an agreement with Japanese bottling system manufacturer Shibuya Kogyo for the purchase and installation of an aseptic cold filling system to step up the production of PET bottles.
The company will invest around THB1.3bn ($40.9m) on the expansion of the production capacity at its plant in Pathum Thani's Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate by 25% from 60 million bottles to 75 million bottles per month.
Oishi Trading chairman and Thai Beverage chief executive and president Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi said that the expansion will serve both domestic and export markets to capture opportunities presented by the Asean Economic Community.
"Shibuya Kogyo's equipment, a reliable production system with state-of-the-art-technology that meets international standards, ensures the highest quality for our facilities and sound environmental management," Sirivadhanabhakdi added.
"This implementation is a stepping stone in the path for ThaiBev to become the dominant leader in the region's overall beverage industry."
The new aseptic cold filling system is expected to become operational in December 2014 and will allow the use of thinner containers that will reduce material costs and environmental impact.
In addition, the system will lower the need for preservatives, provides longer shelf life and will enable the product to retain its flavor.
