Key West, a city in Monroe County of Florida, will get its first legal rum distillery with the launch of a new craft spirits firm - Chef Distilled.
Located in a 2,500ft² former Coca-Cola bottling plant, Chef Distilled is expected to become operational in early October 2013.
Chef Distilled, developed by chef and professional kiteboarder Paul Menta, will initially manufacture eight to 10 110-bottle batches per week.
Legal Rum will be the company's first product. The white rum will be primarily distributed by Opici Family Distributing in South Florida.
The craft spirits company intends to begin retail distribution of Legal Rum by November 2013.
Menta said, "Legal Rum will be our bread and butter, because that's what the distributor is concerned about and what everyone wants."
Chef Distilled will also offer locally sourced flavor infusions and other specialty rums onsite at the distillery with plans to introduce a raw rum and barrel-aged product.
