The Almerian company, Agrieco, dedicated to, for the most part, tomatoes and watermelons and head quartered in Pendant, ceased doing business last July and, therefore, was shut-down later that month. Furthermore, it appears that the SAT, which is part of Unica Group, still has to pay 500,000 Euro to twenty collaborating growers for the processing of produce over the last season.
Agrieco was created in 2004 and since 2009 has been part of the Unica Group cooperative. The news, reported by La Voz de Almería, suggests that this SAT's board of directors hasn't applied to the bankruptcy process yet, even though farmers are claiming they are being owed around 500,000 Euro for the processing of goods that they performed last year.
Additionally, a group of input suppliers and warehouse workers have denounced the entity in the labour court.
As indicated by the newspaper, there was a meeting between Agrieco store workers and the head of the company where they were offered to be hired in another of the group's companies, something that was rejected by the majority of the workforce as their seniority wouldn't be respected in the new company.
According to the newspaper, La Voz de Almeria, Agrieco remains closed and there is no activity in it to date.
