Luxury wines and spirits company Moet-Hennessy, a unit of France-based LVMH Group, is set to launch first India-made sparkling wine.
As part of the process, the company has signed a contract with India-based York winery to set up its own winery at Dindori in Nashik, Maharashtra, reported The Economic Times.
Moet-Hennessy will start operations at its Indian winery from the 2014 grapecrushing season.
With the latest move, Moet-Hennessy joins the list of foreign wine producing companies that are tapping the increasing demand for international wine brands in India.
Total wine consumption in India is increasing at 15-20% annually, of which sparkling wine constitutes less than 10%.
