Some 108 million tons of agricultural products were produced in Iran in the past six months, Deputy Agricultural Jihad Minister said on Saturday. "Farm products account for 76.9 million tons of the mentioned amount," the IRNA News Agency quoted Seyyed Rahim Sajjadi as saying. "Garden products, livestock products and fisheries also account for 17.3, 13.6, and 0.66 million tons of the mentioned amount, respectively," he added.
Iran ranked between 8th and 10th in global fruit production in different years. In the productions of pomegranates and pistachios Iran ranks first, in dates and cherries, 3rd, 4th in the production of apples and walnuts, and, 7th in producing citrus fruits. 50 kinds of fruits are grown in Iran. The record for pomegranate production is 100 tons in a hectare of land, 146 tons for apples and 70 tons for oranges.
