Core Tip: Peruvian agricultural exports to Korea could increase by 43% this year due to the Korean consumers’ high demand for asparagus, mangoes, grapes and purple corn.
Peruvian agricultural exports to Korea amounted to $ 31 million dollars in 2012. They are expected to increase by 43% this year due to the Korean consumers’ high demand for asparagus, mangoes, grapes and purple corn. The latter has only been sold for the last year in the Korea.

Ruy Bo Won, strategy manager of the Korean Trade Office (KOTRA) in Peru, indicated that Peruvian grape shipments to Korea had increased by 150 % and that the mango is expected to increase by 86 % and the asparagus by 130%.

Regarding Peruvian purple corn shipments to Korea, she said that they had amounted to $33,000 so far this year, a 460% increase compared with the first shipments recorded last year ($ 152 dollars). "They were quality sample exports," she explained. She also said that the purple corn tea had been launched in Korea earlier this year.

KOTRA Peru made these announcements as part of the First International Convention of Markets and Trends, made in Expoalimentaria 2013, organized by the Association of Exporters (ADEX) in Lima.

Bo Won also said that the Korean market annually imports about 520,000 million on food and beverages, 75 % of which is devoted to organic products.
