Core Tip: The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) announced this week that it has received more than USD 500,000 in federal grants to help support restoration projects for Atlantic salmon stocks in Maine.
The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) announced this week that it has received more than USD 500,000 in federal grants to help support restoration projects for Atlantic salmon stocks in Maine.

The grant money, according to ASF, includes USD 174,000 for rebuilding fishways and building fish-friendly bridges, and USD 365,000 to help restore the Penobscot River. The funds come from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

"With this generous grant, we will be able to further open up access to critical habitat in Maine's salmon watersheds," said Andrew Goode, Vice President of ASF's U.S. programs.

ASF believes these projects will allow salmon to access 5,400 lake acres and 69 river miles that are inaccessible right now.
