The Spanish Region of Murcia organised the first meeting of the EuroPHA project, "Novel technology to boost the European Bioeconomy: reducing the production costs of PHA biopolymer and expanding its applications as 100% compostable food packaging bioplastic”
The project, coordinated by Fecoam, has ten partners from eight countries and has the goal of developing a bioplastic that is economically viable and environmentally friendly. This new product is 100% biodegradable and made from plant material; it contains no solvents or polluting additives, making it a real alternative to conventional plastics.
Co-funded by the European Union, EuroPHA has a budget of two million Euro and will be developed until 2016. The initiative aims to contribute with affordable solutions through the reduction of bioplastic production costs, making it more competitive and widely available.
Several other cooperatives associated to Fecoam, and especially Alimer's Dairy department, are also collaborating with the project.
