Core Tip: At the end of the third quarter, German brewers reached sales of about 27 million hectoliters of beer and mixed drinks, and they also recorded their first quarterly growth since 208.
For the first time in five yeabeerrs, German brewers can be reasonably happy with their summer trade. At the end of the third quarter, they reached sales of about 27 million hectoliters of beer and mixed drinks, and they also recorded their first quarterly growth since 208.

The German Federal Statistics Office today reported that sales have risen by 800,000 hectoliters, or 3.2%, on the same period last year.

The decisive factor in the opinion of the German Brewers' Association was solely the very good weather in July. Sales in August and September weren't quite as strong, a spokesman said.

For the full year it is still expected that there will be a slight decline in volume sold.

72.9 million hectoliters sold in the first nine months of the year, despite the short summer highs, are still 2.1% below that of the previous year.

Exports to other EU countries fell sharply with a decrease of 9%, while domestic sales fell by only 1.9%.

According to Spiegel online, the German brewers industry is in dyer need of another international sporting event, as sales have been struggled since the successful 2006 Fifa World Cup.
