Officials with Godrej Tyson Foods, in India, announced on Nov. 12 the availability of its Real Good Chicken as a protein option for consumers, which the company said is affordable, nutritious and flavorful. Priced at Rs. 48 (US 76 cents) for a 400 gram package, the 10-year-old brand is a welcomed addition in the country. The offering is a “hygienic, superior and safe protein made affordable for homemakers according to a press release from Godrej Tyson Foods, a joint venture between Godrej Agrovet Ltd., a part of the Godrej Group and Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods Inc.
Dr. J.S Pai, Executive Director of Protein Foods and Nutrition Development Association of India (PFNDAI), said the attributes of poultry deliver important nutritional benefits that were not previously easily accessible throughout India, where protein deficiency has been a growing cause of concern.
"Chicken contains all the essential amino acids in good proportion, thus making it a rich, complete and wholesome source of protein,” he said. “Being white meat, it is easy to digest and safe for everyday consumption in moderate amounts."
Arabind Das, COO of Godrej Tyson Food Ltd., said chicken products such as this were previously considered a luxury, but can now be a part of everyday meals in millions of households.
“While inflation has led homemakers to alter their kitchen budgets and forced many families to cut consumption,” he said. “The range of products under the brand will not just provide consumers affordable and safe quality chicken but enable them to make protein an integral part of the diet."
