New Zealand-based Sanford Sustainable Seafood showed a profit increase in 2013 compared to 2012, despite some difficulties in mussels, tuna and jack mackerel.
The company reported a 4 percent increase in profit over 2012, and revenues totaled NZD 463 million (USD 385 million, EUR 284.5 million), up by 1 percent compared to last year, but earnings before interest, taxes, dividends and acquisitions were down 5 percent from 2012, totaling NZD 47.4 million (USD 39.4 million, EUR 29.1 million) in 2013.
The company reported “a number of sectors failed to perform to expectations in the second half of the year.” In particular, the company cited slow growth of Greenshell mussels in the Marlborough Sounds, low tuna catch levels in the Pacific coupled with rising prices, and fewer jack mackerel caught than expected.
