Core Tip: Drinks can recycling programme Every Can Counts is celebrating a successful summer season, targeting over 600,000 people at six major UK festivals to encourage them to recycle on-site.
Every Can Counts Showcases Recycling

Every Can Counts had a presence at events across the country this summer including V Festival (both sites), Leeds Festival, Global Gathering, Download and Latitude, communicating the recycling message and engaging festival goers with on-site activities such as DJs, games and competitions.

The promotional activity focused on the campsites and supported on-site cleaning contractor Ryans Event Cleaning. Activation of the Every Can Counts festivals activities was managed by Connection Production Services.

At each festival, campers were offered incentives for handing in their used drinks cans to the Every Can Counts team; these included a can exchange, where limited-edition t-shirts were given in return for a bag of empty cans. For every drinks can handed in, festival goers could take part in a range of games for a chance to win tickets to the 2014 festival, which included a target golf game and a football speedcage. To create a party atmosphere Every Can Counts ‘recycling warriors’ encouraged everyone to get onstage, get dancing and pose for photos which were shared on Facebook.

Off-site, Every Can Counts supported the festival season through a social media ‘Candamonium’ competition, which ran on Facebook and reached over 550,000 unique online users.

Boosting its presence, Carlsberg UK joined the Every Can Counts programme earlier this year as one of the main funding partners, and staff from the national retailer and brewer took part in this year’s recycling activity at Latitude and Leeds festivals.

Diana Caldwell, Marketing and Communications Manager of Every Can Counts, said: “Every Can Counts aims to encourage people to recycle the cans they use when they are out and about, and supporting recycling activity at UK festivals is a key part of the programme. Festivals enable us to reach a key group of can consumers and talk to them about recycling while they have a can in their hand – and thank them for taking part with fun incentives and rewards.”
