These goals were used to create action plans for the coming years. Over the longer term, FrieslandCampina has the ambition to contribute to solving three global challenges: the growing world population, aging farmers and the scarcity of natural raw materials. The CSR Report 2013 gives an overview of the most important achievements. As of this year, FrieslandCampina’s CSR Report is only available digitally. This is one way the company is contributing to the reduction of paper use, alongside other measures to tackle waste.
Cees ‘t Hart, chief executive of Royal FrieslandCampina, comments: “Milk is rich in nutrients and provides high-quality protein, essential vitamins and minerals. In light of its nutritional value, affordability and relatively low climate impact, milk fits perfectly into the concept of ‘sustainable diets’ supported and promoted by the UN Food & Agricultural Organisation. FrieslandCampina aims to contribute to nourishing a growing world population through safe and healthy diets with a low environmental impact by reducing its environmental footprint and by research, innovation and investing in sustainable solutions.”
Feeding the world’s growing population will be a challenge and has implications for the environment. How can enough, affordable, nutritious food be produced? Fertile land and clean drinking water are already scarce in some regions. In view of the aging population, will there still be enough farmers to produce our daily food? And will they earn enough to sustain their families? FrieslandCampina wants to contribute towards solving these global challenges through its activities.
