The Edrington Group, a UK-based alcoholic beverage firm, has outlined plans to invest around £100m in the development of a new distillery for its Macallan brand in Speyside, Scotland, while closing its existing distillery.
Work on the proposed Macallan distillery is scheduled for commencement in autumn 2014, following the planning consent.
Developed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the distillery is expected to be completed and enter operation in spring 2017.
Commenting on the development, Edrington chief executive Ian Curle said, "Our plan for the estate includes a contemporary distillery that embodies the international style of The Macallan and builds on the brand's tradition of quality and craftsmanship.
"As this long-term investment develops it will bring significant employment and economic benefit to the local community."
Edrington claims that Macallan's sales may go beyond one million cases this year.
