Federal food safety agencies plan a free Web seminar on Jan. 10 on finding the causes of foodborne illnesses.

The Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service will present a Web seminar called “Are Outbreak Illnesses Representative of Sporadic Illnesses?” according to a news release from the FDA.

The presentation, available for online registration through Jan. 6, will describe recent work on projects related to attribution of foodborne illnesses. As part of the event, presenters will share an analysis for comparing the characteristics of illnesses associated with foodborne outbreaks with those that are not linked to outbreaks.

For those unable to attend the Web seminar, a recording of the event will be posted online, according to the release. The first Web seminar about the topic of classifying food implicated in outbreaks also can be found online, according to the release.
