The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the operations of Leslie Leger & Sons, effective 20 December 2013 as the site failed to implement adequate controls for food safety.

Located in Cap Pelé, New Brunswick, the facility processes pickled, spiced and marinated fish.

CFIA stated that the plant failed to comply with minimum regulatory standards for equipment, sanitation and hygiene in violation of the Fish Inspection Regulations.

In addition, the company failed to take corrective actions for deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections.

No food recall has been initiated with this suspension and all the non-compliant products at this facility are currently under CFIA control.

Leslie Leger & Sons will not be able to resume operations until it implements the necessary corrective actions, the agency claimed.
