According to calculations by the German Bureau of Statistics, food in Germany in 2013 became 4.4% more expensive on average. When buying fresh food consumers had to fork out even more: according to the German Agrarmarkt Informations Gesellschaft (AMI) in 2013 about 6.3% more had to be paid for these products than in 2012. The prices of potatoes, milk products and eggs increased the most.
