The German food industry in November 2013 met, both in local trade and in export, with a weak turnover, as announced at the German website Proplanta.de. Compared to the same month of the previous year the branch turnover decreased by 3% to 14.9 billion Euro.
Especially in the export of food, important impulses to grow were missing. The export turnover decreased by 5.2% to 4.4 billion Euro compared to November last year. However, the producers of food remain optimistic. According to the IFO-index of January 2014 the trading conditions in the branch are stable at a high level at the moment. Especially good, are the expectations of food export and product development.
The good consumer climate also improved further in January 2014 and in addition
the income expectations of the consumers reached the highest value in 13 years. Also the tendency to buy was higher than it has been sine 2007. Together with inflations decrease in pressure it also sends positive impulses to the food turnover in Germany.
