The North American Meat Association's board of directors approved an agreement, which calls for NAMA to merge with the American Meat Institute effective Jan. 1, 2015. AMI members will vote on the proposed merger in April.

Discussion about a possible merger of AMI and NAMA began in September 2013. Members representing both associations formed a committee to explore the possibility of a merger and how a united organization could best serve its members.

“The NAMA Board feels strongly that the members will be best served by this merger. We’re excited to have this opportunity to form a new industry organization,” said Tony Gahn Jr., NAMA co-president.
