FoodDrinkEurope, the representative body for Europe’s food and drink manufacturers, has published a short brochure outlining its policy priorities for the new European Parliament which will be elected in May.

FoodDrinkEurope’s brochure, entitled ‘Feeding the Debate’, outlines the food and drink industry’s key priorities under four headings, namely: Feeding the Economy, Nourishing Innovation, Growing Sustainably and Serving Consumers’ Needs.

The brochure focuses on key legislative dossiers and issues on which MEPs will have either a direct or an indirect influence. These include: the proposed Novel Foods Regulation, the EU Waste Acquis, EU Promotion Policy for agricultural and food products and the need to eliminate barriers to innovation in Europe. The brochure also encourages MEPs to carefully consider FoodDrinkEurope’s request for a dedicated EU Industrial Policy for food and drink.

“The next European Parliament will be the most powerful in the history of the EU, with a crucial role in driving through important legislation affecting the competitiveness of our industry,” said FoodDrinkEurope president Jesús Serafín Pérez. “For this reason, we have published this short brochure to communicate in clear, understandable terms our key priorities on those matters on which MEPs will have a direct influence. In recent years, FoodDrinkEurope has worked successfully with MEPs on a range of important initiatives from tackling food wastage to improving B2B relations along the food supply chain. We look forward to more close collaboration in the years to come”.
