Despite horsemeat scandal, global meat industry is positive about prospects

However, the survey by Globalmeatnews says that 84 per cent are optimistic about the future of their company, compared to last year.

Some 85.5 per cent of meat industry professionals use the internet to read news and trends, followed by 67.2 per cent towards research and 66 per cent towards identifying products and suppliers

It also found that 66.7 per cent use the internet for more than six hours per week for work purposes. When online, 64.7 per cent of meat industry professionals look for content with a global scope compared to 2.6 per cent who preferred content targeted locally.

The ‘holy trinity’ of topics that generate a great deal of interest revolves around beef, company news and industry trends, while some 61.1 per cent use the internet to promote their business online. It also found that more than 50 per cent have visited an advertiser’s website as a result of seeing an advert online.

With more than 90 per cent of meat professionals accessing internet on a day-to-day basis, and 70 per cent of the respondents access more than five work-related websites a week. Meat professionals are regularly online to identify the latest news and trends from the industry.
