Bolivia's Government to Increase Fish Production

Core Tip: The Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Víctor Hugo Vásquez, has said that the government will invest 88 million Bolivianos to increase fish production and to help recover at least five fish species in danger of extinction.
The Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Víctor Hugo Vásquez, has said that the government will invest 88 million Bolivianos to increase fish production and to help recover at least five fish species in danger of extinction.

"The Ministry of Rural Development will invest 88 million bolivianos into the fish sector between 2014 and 2015 in order to increase production and recover endangered species," he told reporters.

He explained that 60 million Bolivians will be invested this year and the remaining 28 million next year, reports FMBolivia.

Mr Vasquez said further that the investment will be into infrastructure such as the construction of tanks or ponds for raising fish in the basins of the Altiplano, the Amazon and La Plata.

Fingerlings will also be bred for distribution and facilities to produce feed will be constructed.
