Greiner Packaging International is moving to new offices in May 2014 at its first US site in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Production will start in July, and initial machine operation should start by the fourth quarter of this year. The focus is on premium packaging for the dairy industry.
“There is much to be said about being active in the US market, especially now: The consumers’ rethinking has led to eating more consciously. The increasing demand for good quality foods also means an increasing need for high-quality packaging. At the same time, we have been observing a trend for sustainable packaging concepts,” explains Willi Eibner, CEO of Greiner Packaging International. He adds: “Some of our customers have already started in the US. The new site opens up the opportunity to strengthen established business relationships on another continent, while staying as close to the customer as possible.”
K3® technology ideal for US market needs
Greiner Packaging International offers the right solutions for the current demands of the US dairy industry. Above all: K3® technology. Its key strength lies in communication. Its cardboard wrap can be decorated on the interior and exterior, which makes it perfectly suited for the highly developed US marketing system. With its advantages in sustainability (renewable raw materials, less plastic content, up to 25% reduced carbon footprint), K3® technology is precisely in step with the trend.
High-quality jobs with excellent prospects
A 10,000 square meter area is available for the first development stage in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Greiner Packaging International will use it primarily to manufacture high-quality premium packaging (cardboard-plastic combinations as well as printed cups). The most important milestones in 2014 are: move offices in May, start-up in July, and begin initial machine operation in the fourth quarter. Most of the employees will come from the region. They will enjoy excellent work conditions, long-term future prospects, and proven in-house training that will contribute to their personal and technical advancement.
Attractive, well developed region
The new site lies in a geographically favorable location. Highways are close by, as is the New York metropolis. This ensures very good logistic accessibility to the international corporate network of Greiner Packaging. From the packaging industry’s point of view, the Pennsylvania region is among the most attractive in the US. Around 40% of the US population lives in the country’s Northeast and Midwest. Many milk-processing plants are also based here.
