PepsiCo has opened a new manufacturing facility for its potato chips business Simba in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The new plant opened in Prospecton is expected to join two existing plants located in Gauteng and the Western Cape in providing the brand a deeper regional presence and opportunity to expand in the near future.
Simba manufacturing director Andrew Havinga said the company has witnessed demand for its products grow for a number of years and the new facility is aimed at helping it meet the demand and better serve the needs of its valued retail partners.
The Prospecton plant is equipped with advanced technology ensuring an efficient and stable operation including processes to increase machinery efficiency while reducing electricity consumption and increasing water reuse.
PepsiCo's Simba snacks business offers brands such as Lay's, Doritos chips and dips, Cheetos, Ghost Pops, Chipstix and Millstones.
"Simba is one of our country's most-loved brands and has been a valued part of the South African landscape for over 58 years, which is why we are pleased to open this world-class manufacturing site and to welcome our new 90-strong team members," Havinga added.
