Giant Food announced Thursday that it is offering a full-range of health services for customers traveling abroad through its Travel Health Clinic.

“We pride ourselves in offering the highest quality service to support our pharmacy customers’ busy lives, and that includes travel abroad plans,” said Gayle Shields, director of pharmacy operations at the Landover, Md.-based retailer. “Whether it’s travel for business, service or study abroad, or leisure, our Travel Health Clinic pharmacists will work with each customer to provide specialized assistance and consultation customized for travel destinations.”

Specially trained pharmacists will staff the Giant Food Travel Health Clinics, offering customers pre-travel consultations including current and destination-specific recommendations, said the retailer in an announcement. Depending on the destination, recommendations can include immunizations, medications and specific health advice to prevent and treat illness while traveling. Among the vaccinations the Travel Health Clinic can administer include those to prevent malaria, hepatitis, measles, typhoid and polio. The cost per visit is $30.

The Travel Health Clinic is available in 15 Giant Food locations in Virginia and Washington D.C.

Walgreens is also offering specialized services for international travelers. Full travel consultations and immunizations are available at 1,500 pharmacies at the Deerfield, Ill.-based retailer. As reported in SN, consultations are available with specially trained pharmacists to discuss immunizations, prescription refills and pertinent health documentation. The consultations, are either 15- or 30-minutes long, and start at $19.99.

Travel immunizations are available at more than 5,000 Walgreens pharmacies.
