At least 27 additionChickenal cases of Salmonella infection have emerged in the ongoing Salmonella outbreak linked to Foster Farms chicken, bringing the total case count to 601.

The new cases have been reported by the California Department of Public Health, which has now seen 468 of the cases — by far the most of any state.

Food Safety News also reached out to the state health departments in Washington and Oregon, but those states reported having no new official cases.

The Salmonella outbreak linked to Foster Farms chicken was first reported in October 2013, with new cases continuing to emerge. The company has not issued a recall for any of its products.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that for every one case of Salmonella that is detected, another 29 cases go undetected. Those estimates would suggest the Foster Farms outbreak may have affected more than 17,000 people.
