r Andrew Cuomo has established a new NY Craft Brewer Workgroup, a move that will back the continued expansion in the state's craft beer sector.The new workgroup, comprising representatives from the craft beverage industry, will deliver recommendations on how to continue the growth in the sector.
It will focus on research on new varieties of hops and barley, production methods and consumer trends; as well as ensuring that the state has the necesary infrastructure for beer production.
Cuomo said that New York's craft beer industry has seen tremendous growth in the past four years and the government plans to keep the momentum going.
"By bringing together leaders from industry, academia and the public sector, we can make sure that the Empire State becomes an even better place to brew and promote world-class beverages," added Cuomo.
Empire State Development president, CEO & commissioner Kenneth Adams said, "The NY Craft Brewer Workgroup will further this collaboration by enhancing our communication and responsiveness to the needs of the craft beverage industry, while helping to create jobs and better promote our locally made products."
Around 48 new Farm Breweries have opened up across the state, since a new law to promote the use of local ingredients in craft beers came into effect in January 2013.
The Farm Breweries produce beer by using certain levels of locally grown ingredients, which will be increased from 20% to 90% by 2024.
