Cargill Meat Solutions has recalled its Your Fresh Market brand ground beef products from the market as they might be contaminated with E. coli O157, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said.
The recalled brand had been sold at Wal-Mart stores in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
According to CFIA, the recalled products include extra lean ground beef sirloin, extra lean ground beef, lean ground beef and medium ground beef products. All these products carry a best-before date of either 28 or 29 November.
CFIA spokesperson was quoted by CBC News as saying: "The CFIA was notified that a retail sample of lean ground beef that was tested as part of routine retail sampling conducted by the Public Health Agency of Canada was presumptive positive.
"The sample was from a Walmart store in British Columbia. CFIA immediately initiated a food safety investigation at the processing plant."
E. coli O157 may cause nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In some cases, it may leads to seizures or strokes.
However, no serious illnesses have been reported so far.
