Core Tip: Armenia has imposed a ban on poultry product imports from 17 US states over bird flu outbreak, according to the former's Agriculture Ministry.

The ban comes in the wake of avian influenza outbreak across several commercial poultry farms in the US since December last year, Sputnik International reported.

The country has banned the import of all kinds of poultry products, including raw materials from Arkansas, California, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Reports say that migratory birds are the carrier of virus to commercial poultry farms. Once a case of bird flu is confirmed, the complete flock of poultry has to be culled.

Earlier in May, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong has imposed a ban on poultry meat imports from parts of US and Turkey over bird flu outbreak.

Prior to Hong Kong's action, China also suspended all imports of poultry, poultry products and eggs from the US.
