Bulgaria: Fruit and veg cheaper in May

Core Tip: Fruits and vegetables in the Bulgarian market became cheaper in May compared to the previous month, according to data of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The greatest decline in prices has been registered by lettuce, with a 48% drop. Cucumbers became 40% cheaper, and tomato prices dropped by 11% for Bulgarian produce and by 25% for imports. Meanwhile, price increases have been reported for lemons (+25%), apples (+14%) and potatoes (+8%).

 
Compared to last year, however, most fruit and vegetable prices have grown. The greatest increase, of around 40%, is that of tomatoes. The value of bananas and lemons is about 13% higher. Potatoes have also become 20% more expensive than in May 2014, and radishes are up 5%.
