The Ukrainian fresh produce price index has fallen by 16.7% in the week from May 30th to June 5th, after a decrease of 13.3% over the past two weeks, due to a significant rise in the supply of early produce in the Ukrainian market.

"As a week before, prices of all fresh produce categories went down due to favorable weather conditions and active harvesting of early crops," says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. "The sharpest decline in prices was registered in the segment of greenhouse vegetables, which became 32% less expensive due to a rapid increase in their supply."

Prices of traditional vegetables decreased by 23.8% week-on-week due to a fall in the price levels of early white cabbage. Last year's red beets and early onions also became less expensive. The fresh fruit price index depended on rapidly falling prices of sweet cherries and strawberries, which also exerted pressure on the price levels of imported fruits, which consumption had been falling in Ukraine.
