This summer, strawberries should be quite affordable for consumers in Ukraine. While predictions pointed to sky-high prices, strawberries are actually becoming cheaper every day, and all thanks to a generous harvest. Strawberries are piling on the shelves of supermarkets and bazaars. Some cafes and restaurants are even offering specials prepared with strawberries in their menus.
A week ago, a kilo of strawberries in Kiev cost 40-50 UAH (1.68-2.10 Euro); now prices range between 23 and 30 UAH (0.96 and 1.26 Euro). Sales prices in the capital may continue to fall to 18 UAH per kilo (0.75 Euro).
At national level, the cheapest strawberries are currently available in Uzhgorod, while in Donetsk and Crimea reach the highest prices, of about 100 UAH per kilo (4.20 Euro).
