United to promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables; a new global network created by the aggregation of the two main international organisations that promote fresh fruit and vegetables (International Fruit and Vegetables Alliance (IFAVA) and the International Alliance of Associations and Movements 5 a Day (AIAM5) – with the goal of contributing to improve consumers' food consumption.

The countries involved are 20: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, France, Hungary, Mexico, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, the US and Venezuela, Together they make the Global Network for the Promotion of Fruit and Vegetables Consumption, which was presented last week in Milan during the 7th edition of EGEA.

The conference was the ideal platform for this kind of announcement because the public was concentrated on the fundamental role of fruit and vegetables and on the promotion of a healthy diet in addition to environmental and economic sustainability. In this sense, the network aims at working side by side with the various countries to sustain consumption of fruit and vegetables with direct effects on the public health.

To reach that goal the representatives of this new network showed their intentions of collaborating with the OMS, both internationally and nationally. In terms of communication, a newsletter will be directed by Aprifel, the French member of the project. Finally, a road map and general directions for strategies and goals will be presented during the next General Assembly that will take place on 18-19 November during the 11th International Congress of Promotion to the Consumption of Fruit and Vegetables in Mérida, Mexico.
