There are provisions for a good pineapple export market for Fiji considering that New Zealand intends to import 500 tonnes of pineapple on an annual basis.
This was revealed by divisional planning officer North Alipate Bolalevu, who said during the Seaqaqa District Development Advisory Council meeting yesterday so far Fiji could not meet the local market demand for pineapple.
Mr Bolalevu said farmers needed to meet the local demand before they could venture out into bigger markets.
"There is a good market in NZ and they have a demand of 500 tonnes of pineapple annually," he said.
"Imagine money that farmers can earn if they fulfil these markets demand.
"However farmers need to fulfil the local demand before they can service the needs of these bigger markets."
