On September 9, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced its decision to approve the importation of fresh cranberries from Chile into the US.

In a statement, APHIS said that based on the findings of a pest risk assessment, it has concluded that the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds can be mitigated by the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures. The following measures will be applied regarding the importation of fresh cranberries from Chile:

      ○ They must be imported as commercial consignments only.
      ○ Each consignment of cranberries must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization of Chile.
      ○ Each consignment is subject to inspection upon arrival at the port of entry to the United States.
