Ukraine may soon start buying white cabbage from the Russian market. This was reported during the course of the the first national conference "Cabbage Culture of Ukraine-2015" by project manager of "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits" Tatiana Getman.

“In September 2015 the situation on the market for white cabbage in Eastern Europe is completely atypical for this time of the year,” said Getman, “prices for this product in Ukraine and Poland have already risen above all previous records, while in Russia the price of the product is on average twice as low as in the aforementioned countries.”

According to APK-Inform, at the moment Ukrainian and Polish farmers are offering cabbages at 0.26-0,.7 Euro/kg, while the Russian farms are ready to dispatch for an average of 0.13 Euro/kg. The project’s analysts noted that in Ukraine today, the price of cabbage is 4.5 times higher than in the second half of September 2014, while in Poland, the price of the product increased by 2.6 in a year. Meanwhile, in Russia, the price of cabbage is on average 20% lower than a year ago.

"The main reason for this price increase in Ukraine and Poland, is a drought which caused on average a decrease of 20% in production in these countries,” - said the expert. “Meanwhile, weather conditions were favorable for Russian farmers, and the area planted with cabbage in Russia in the current season has increased markedly.”

According to the expert, if the current trends continue, then in the near future exports of white cabbage from Russia would be quite logical.
