Representatives of a dozen major companies and business associations of the Murcian agricultural sector attended a conference where Martín García and Soledad Morillas, consultants of China In Crowd, together with Antonio Santos, of the marketing and communications consultancy Agromarketing, explained the different opportunities and characteristics of the Chinese market for the export of agricultural products or technology, given the imminent signing of protocols for certain products, such as stonefruit from Spain.

In this context, with business opportunities opening in the Asian giant, Agromarketing and China In Crowd outlined the potential opportunities of taking part in the seventh edition of the Fair iFresh Shanghai China, to be held between 19 and 21 November (www.ifreshchina.com). Both Murcian firms were chosen in May as exclusive representatives for Spain at the fair, which is the most important in mainland China. In this line, they are organising a trade mission to attend the Fair and take part in the First Spain-China Agricultural Meeting, where participants will have a chance to showcase their products and contact Chinese importers.

The speakers also explained that next year's 2nd Peach of Cieza Congress, organised by Agromarketing, will be presented at the event in Shanghai; the goal is to convince a trade mission of Chinese entrepreneurs to visit Murcia in March to attend the Congress and have an on-site look at different farms, businesses and facilities.

The event closed with a videoconference with Shanghai, in which Soledad Morillas, of China In Crowd, outlined further details about the Chinese agricultural market together with iFresh's Chinese partners.

A giant market
The economic data of the sector in China reveal a scene of great opportunity, with nearly two billion dollars' worth of imported fruits, vegetables and citrus and 300 million potential middle class consumers, with per capita disposable income expected to double. The consumption of healthy foods (organic, enriched, etc.) has been valued at 70,000 million dollars in 2015. 79% of consumers in major cities buy fresh produce in supermarkets.

Agromarketing (www.agromarketing.es) is a communications and marketing consultant specialised in the agricultural and tourism sectors. It is the organiser of the Peach Congress in Cieza (www.ciezamelocoton.es), with the region being the largest producer of this stonefruit in Europe.

For its part, China In Crowd (www.chinaincrowd.com) is a business development consultant in China, based in Murcia and Shanghai, with a team of experts in international trade and business processes with China.
