The association VegOrganic will present its new independently checked seal of approval for plant-based food products in organic quality at the food product fair ANUGA. The first products certified by the association stem from Voelkel, Tofutown and AOT All Organic Trading GmbH, producers and suppliers of organic oils, fats and proteins. Representatives of the company will be on-site on the 13th of October.
Consumer protection organizations have long since asked for such a label, according to the label's publishers. Among the founders of the company are Alexander Beck, CEO of the Assoziation ökologischer Lebensmittelhersteller (AoeL), and Bernd Drosihn, CEO of Tofutown.
According to the association, the guidelines of EcoVeg, which is the label's name, give a clear framework of regulations for plant-based products. Up to now, neither in Germany nor in the EU were there legal definitions of the term "vegan" to which one could refer. The EcoVeg directives serve the need from the trade and from consumers, to establish binding rules for plant-based food products, and to supervise compliance with these guidelines, as further stated.
