Indian textile company Welspun has forayed into ecommerce segment with the launch of its online portal, called Shopwelspun.
The online sitel will offer brands such as SPACES Home & Beyond, Welhome and Spun. The product range would include carpets, rugs and bed and bath products.
Through this move, the company aims to achieve $50m web-based sales by 2020, The Time of India reported.
Welspun India chief executive and executive director Dipali Goenka was quoted by The Economic Times as saying:"ShopWelspun.in is set to be a one-stop-shop for home furnishings by connecting with the consumers and providing solutions through edutainment mediums on the ecommerce platform."
Besides the products, the portal will feature blogs and user-generated content from home furnishing experts. The site will offer tips on home décor and provide items at affordable prices.
The site will also be equipped with advanced technology in payment gateways, have back-end integration and come with support services such as digital marketing, data analytics and logistics to engage customers, reported The Hindu Business Line.
Commenting on the portal, Dipali Goenka said: "It will offer consumer an enhanced buying experience that combines the speed and convenience of ecommerce transactions with the trust and reliability associated with Welspun."
Shopwelspun.in will also offer exclusive brand 'Spun', which features designs intricately handcrafted by weavers and artisans from the Kutch region.
Welspun is also making significant investments in technology, online merchandise to offer enhanced shopping experience and lure consumers with lower prices and convenient shopping experience, The Times of India reported.
The company aims to achieve an omni-channel advantage with the launch of web portal and presence of physical stores to consolidate its market position.
Founded in 1985, Welspun began as a polyester yarn facility. It has grown to sell steel pipes, towels and power. Pipes are the biggest revenue generating products of the company, The Times of India reported.
