According to data from the Central Agricultural Monitoring, prepared by the Business Intelligence area of CentralAmericaData.com, Central American banana exports have registered a slight decrease so far this year when compared to the same period last year.
Between January and August 2015 the region exported 3,477,017 metric tons of bananas, equivalent to 1,437,000 dollars. This amount is smaller than the 3,542,365 metric tons exported in the same period of 2014, which generated revenues for $1,448 million dollars.
Guatemala remains the largest exporter of bananas in the region, with 1,625,034 MT exported in the period, followed by Costa Rica with 1,300,526 MT; Honduras, with 405,898 MT; Panama, with 135,625 MT; Nicaragua, with 8,660 MT, and El Salvador, with 1,274 MT.
