The cauliflower market is getting ready to shift from the northern summer production to the southern autumn one, which will then continue throughout winter. "Prices are around €1 per kg for the produce from Emilia-Romagna and the first cauliflowers from Campania," explains a wholesaler operating in Bologna.

Another wholesaler confirmed that the "summer" season is still going on, though "we are selling the first cauliflowers from San Benedetto del Tronto at 80 cents per kg. It is still early for the produce from Apulia, which will arrive between 5th and 10th November."

"There is currently a lot of foreign produce on the market as well as that from South Tyrol. Foreign cauliflowers come from France and are sold at 80 cents per kg in 8-head crates, whereas South Tyrol ones are sold at 90 cents/€1 because they are whiter and are processed better."

However, both France and South Tyrol are at the end of the season. "In South Tyrol - he concludes - we approach the period for frost, which blocks production; the same goes for France, since the area of production is in Normandy".
