Ellen van Kester is responsible for the export of family company Horticola Guadelfeo in Motril, a company that has specialized in specialty tomatoes and Chinese cabbage. "This summer, we had a strange season. Until two weeks ago, we had major shortages in cherry and cherry plum tomatoes. This was mainly due to the high temperatures we had in the summer. I don't remember there being such high prices in summer."

"For two weeks, there have been significantly higher volumes, and sales are disappointing. Also because of the good weather in the rest of Europe, there are still a lot of Dutch and Belgian tomatoes in the various markets," Ellen continues. "The quantities of cherry and cherry plum tomatoes we have for this winter, are bigger in comparison with the past years."

"We haven't started with all products yet. With a number of varieties, we will start in the near future. There are Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes though. But in Kumato, for instance, the figures are still very low. This year, we have a new cocktail tomato variety called Tomazur. A somewhat larger variety, but with more flavour," Ellen concludes.
